Elise Trouw performs at the Casbah Wednesday.

As a member of the San Diego Music Academy, I'm not exactly supposed to share my nominations or votes publicly, but I will say that last September I had the privilege of seeing local musician Elise Trouw at the Casbah and I was blown away. It was no surprise then when I heard she's been steadily gaining steam for her amazing live looping and mashups which even landed her a performance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Tonight, the sold-out audience will get to see her amazing talent, and I can't help but think she had a huge influence on the early sell-out of this show in support of Moonchild. Meanwhile, for another amazing local act, head to Tower Bar, where Western Settings play their tour opener. Spoken-word performer Andrea Gibson is amazing live, and while not a musical artist per se, her melodic and passionate performance at House of Blues will pull your heartstrings nonetheless. There's plenty to get you over the hump tonight if you just get out to find it.
