Little Hurricane Video Premiere: ‘One Night at a Time'

San Diego's favorite blues-rock duo return with a luscious new single off their upcoming album "Love Luck"

In May, Little Hurricane -- one of San Diego’s most cherished musical exports -- announced their grand return to the thick of things with the forthcoming release of “Love Luck,” the husband-and-wife indie-blues-rock duo’s fourth studio album. Due out Aug. 9 as the very first release via their own label Death Valley Records, the hometown group have just issued the official music video for their gorgeous new single "One Night at a Time" (on the same day as their headlining show at the San Diego County Fair no less).

While the band’s previous three full-length efforts (2011's "Homewrecker," 2014's "Gold Fever" and 2017's "Same Sun Same Moon") practically succeeded in out-Black-Keys-ing that other duo at their own game, drummer Celeste "C.C." Spina and vocalist/guitarist Anthony "Tone" Catalano have been busy expanding their sound -- tastefully and subtly, of course -- while finding new ways to burrow their way into listeners' hearts with impeccably written, home-recorded songs of love, loss and reflection.

Without a doubt, they’re in prime form on "One Night at a Time," inarguably one of the most gorgeous, heartfelt tracks they’ve ever laid down (stream it on Spotify here). Alternating between Tone’s explosive yelp and soft, simmering croon, the song is propelled by a bouncy C.C. beat that her bandmate's slightly overdriven, reverb-soaked guitar can't help but cling to. Meanwhile, an undercurrent of haunting echoes trail throughout -- creating an ambience that sounds on the verge of spiraling out of control at any moment.

While their chemistry is (of course) undeniable, it’s the little things that makes the video (directed by Jennafer Grace) for "One Night at a Time" extra charming. Whether it’s the inclusion of the band’s omnipresent lamp/nightstand (which houses a speaker cabinet for Tone); or the wall of paintings behind them (a few of which curiously resemble C.C. herself); or the way they both cast quick, knowing glances at each other -- Little Hurricane has always been much more than the sum of its parts. With this impressive single, an upcoming tour, a new album (pre-order it here) and baby #2 on the way (congratulations!), it seems like it’s all coming together better than ever.
