Unfortunately, the chances are more likely than not that you know someone who has been affected by childhood cancer. If you're not sure how to help, now's the time to learn, because it's Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, former San Diego-based singer-songwriter Jesse Palter is doing her part with a benefit show for the Seany Foundation at Soda Bar -- and so are locals Veronica May & the Spiritual Hotels.

Palter's debut album, "Paper Trail," just landed LA Weekly's Album of the Week and Music Connection claims, "'Paper Trail' reveals an artist of soul, vision and songwriting that is both joyfully infectious and heartrending," a la Carole King, Sarah McLachlan and Sara Bareilles.

Bassists Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie’s "Blackstar") and Alex Al (Michael Jackson), plus drummers Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Pearl Jam) and Aaron Sterling (John Mayer) contributed to the recording, so there are definitely some heavy hitters in the mix.

Listen to single “Sever the Ties” here.

The benefit show is personal for Palter, who tragically lost her high school sweetheart to cancer. His name? Sean Lewis Robbins, who founded the Seany Foundation to help other children once he passed. After his death in 2006, his family carried his childhood cancer awareness mission forward.

As a survivor of childhood cancer myself, this one hits home.
