Bands Battle at Belly Up for Fiesta del Sol Spot

The long-running Solana Beach festival looks toward the local music scene to fill 2020's lineup

For four decades, Fiesta del Sol has taken over Solana Beach with family-friendly fun, art, food, rides and a ton of great live music.

In fact, just this past May, the outdoor fest celebrated its 40th anniversary with the B-Side Players (who will similarly kick off 50-year festivities for Ponce's Mexican Restaurant in September), Pine Mountain Logs, One Drop, and more.

While Fiesta del Sol always makes a point to book local acts every year, it'll turn its gaze toward the San Diego music scene in a big way on Monday, Sept. 16, with a special show.

At the first-ever Fiesta del Sol Battle of the Bands, the Belly Up plays host to six local bands who'll fight to the musical death "for a chance to take home the glory of Best Band and a spot" on the festival's 2020 main-stage lineup.

As of this article's publication, participating acts have yet to be announced -- but if the night's lineup is comprised of any artists that make up the Belly Up's regularly scheduled local shows, this particular battle could be epic.

Tickets are $10 at the BellyUp.com. Doors open at 5 p.m.
