Race Walkers Vie for Shot at Olympics at Team Trials in Santee

The country's top race walkers will gather in Santee for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Sunday.

The 50 kilometer race loops through Santee and goes along Mast Boulevard, Magonolia Avenue and Jeremy Street, bringing racers across east San Diego streets.

The favorite for the men's race, which begins at 7 a.m., is John Nunn, of Bonsall; he is expected to finish the race in shortly over four hours.

Attendance is free for spectators; the city is expecting between 500 and 1,000 people to show up.

Up to three men can qualify for the 2016 games Sunday. It is one of three events under the U.S. Track and Field umbrella. The Marathon trials took place earlier in February in Los Angeles and the Track and Field trials will take place in Oregon this summer.
