Todman to Return to Chargers

Prospect sneaks past waivers, will join practice squad

It was a surprise Saturday when the San Diego Chargers placed running back Jordan Todman on waivers.

Just as surprising: The rookie was not claimed by another team, a league source said Monday evening, and the 21-year-old has opted to re-join his teammates on the practice squad.

The corresponding move will be announced later in the week.

The Chargers front office considered Todman, a standout at UConn, a draft-day bargain after selecting him in the sixth round last April. He flashed his raw potential in the preseason, rushing 28 times for 112 yards and catching nine passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Curtis Brinkley was activated from the practice squad before Sunday's game against the New York Jets, and Todman was released to make room on the active roster.
