Men's Water Polo Loses to Hungary

With the Americans' second straight loss, the U.S. finishes play in Group B even with Hungary

Monday's game against Hungary was a rematch from the Olympic final in Beijing four years ago and for the returning veterans on the U.S. men's water polo team, the outcome all too familiar.

Gold is the goal for the returning silver medalists including Coronado athletes Jesse Smith and Layne Beaubien.

However, when the men's water polo team faced Hungary Monday, their opponent dominated the game with a 11-6 win.

In the Beijing final, Hungary won 14-10

It was the last preliminary-stage game for the Americans at the London Olympics.

With the Americans' second straight loss, the U.S. finishes play in Group B even with Hungary with six points, but behind in the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The U.S. has already qualified for the tournament.

If Montenegro beats winless Britain later Monday, the Americans will be the group's No. 4 seed and play Group A winner Croatia in the quarterfinals.
