Hundreds of hopefuls turned out Sunday to compete for 28 highly coveted spots on the Charger Girls.

Open auditions were held at the University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion. Applicants were judged on dance ability, crowd appeal and showmanship.

More than 400 women from all over the world tried out, according to Charger Girls representatives.

This year auditions features a special celebrity judge, Sabrina Bryan. Bryan, star of the Cheetah Girls and Dancing with the Stars, knows what it takes to be a high profile dancer. As a performer on the fitth season of "Dancing With the Stars," Sabrina performed with dancer Mark Ballas.

“Sabrina’s variety of high profile dance and performance experience adds another level of expertise to the judging panel,” Charger Girls Director Lisa Simmons said last week.

Sunday's finalists will be brought back next week for an interview and final dance audition.
