Hudson Quiets Padres

Tim Hudson (4-1) throwing quality starts for the Giants has become routine. He pitched into the ninth inning without giving up a walk to notch his fourth win of the season in the Giants 3-2 victory. Hudson has pitched no fewer than seven innings in all of his 2014 starts.

The three-time All-Star struck out six and was one batter away from throwing a complete game shutout. That ended when Yasmani Grandal hit a two out home run into McCovey Cove to cut the Giants lead to one.

Sergio Romo relieved Hudson and got Chris Denorfia to ground out to shortstop to end the game. It was Romo's seventh save of the season.

Robbie Erlin (1-4) took the loss for the Padres. He gave up three earned runs in six-plus innings.

The Padres finished the 10-game road trip 4-6. They have Thursday off and begin a 10-game home stand at Petco Park on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
