Christie Trails Clinton in Possible 2016 Showdown

If New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie were to run for president in 2016, he would most likely face two big challenges: Reuniting his fractured Republican party and beating Hillary Clinton in a general election, according to the latest NBC News poll. After his landslide victory last week, 32 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning respondents said they would vote for Christie in a GOP presidential primary, and 31 percent said they would prefer another candidate. A majority of Northeast Republicans – 57 percent – would also vote for Christie in a primary, compared to 22 percent who wouldn't. Christie didn't fair as well in other parts of the country, as respondents in the Midwest, South and the West said they preferred another GOP candidate. On the flip side, a resounding majority of Democrats said they would strongly support Hillary Clinton for the nomination.
