Woman Killed Heading to Work

A driver hit the woman, who was getting out of her car, and then took off

A woman, heading to work in Chollas View, was hit and killed by a hit and run driver, according to police.

The 35-year-old victim drove to her job at Moody's Lunch Service on Euclid Ave. with her mother Friday morning. As she parked her car and got out to grab something from the back seat, she was hit by a blue station wagon at about 2:15 a.m.

The driver fled the scene, going eastbound on Market St. The victim suffered severe abdominal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A coworker said that stretch of road is dangerous.

"Right now it's clear but sometimes it's a lot of fog or it's a lot of trucks going to work early in the morning,โ€ Luciano Gallegos said. โ€œThis is not the first accident here. Three or four months ago the same thing happened here across the street with the other cook.โ€

That cook survived his injuries.

Witnesses said the suspect looked to be in his 50s with white or grey curly hair and described the vehicle as a metallic blue, older model foreign station wagon. A piece of the right front bumper came off upon impact.

If you see a vehicle fitting the description or have any information about this case, please contact police.
