An NBC 7 viewer captured this picture driving past a trash truck fire in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

A trash truck fire in Cardiff-by-the-Sea caused traffic problems during Monday's evening commute.

The incident started around 3:45 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5 at Birmingham Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the load caught fire, and the semi truck driver dumped the trash onto the road.

Although NorthComm crews extinguished the fire, the off ramp from I-5 North to Birmingham stayed closed for about three hours while they cleaned up the mess.
