Sheriff’s homicide Sgt. Roy Frank told our media partner the North County Times that one shooting victim, a man, died at the gym. Two others were taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido and are expected to survive.

According to one television news reporter, the man killed was a club volunteer in his 50s and the wounded were another volunteer in his 50s and a man in his 20s. Investigators haven’t identified the victims pending notification of relatives.

The owner told us the man killed was a long-time volunteer at the gym working with underprivileged kids.

Sheriff's investigators have not released any information on a suspect, but the owner of the gym said there was a recent falling out with a former trainer.
