San Diego Mayor Sanders addresses thousands of Proposition 8 opponents in Hillcrest

An estimated 6,000 people took to the streets of Hillcrest Saturday night urging people to vote no on proposition 8.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders lead the charge. For Sanders the issue is political and deeply personal. His daughter Lisa is a Lesbian. There was a time he was for a same sex marriage ban.  Last fall he went public with a surprising change of heart announcing he  was against a ban on gay marriage.

The all day push against prop 8 began with a morning church service. Opponents packed St. Paul's Episcopal Church Saturday morning.

Dozens of clergy members from a variety of religions, races, and backgrounds say they're urging people to vote on the side of love.

"Our diversity is a gift. An opportunity for us to experience the height, breadth, and depth of God's creativity" said Reverend Mary Sue Brookshire The married mother of two, was among those addressing some 400 people during the interfaith service.

"I think that all people have a right to marry, i think that all people have a right to vote, we're called a country of freedom, we're supposed to be free, " said the Reverend Brenda Evans of the Christ Chapel World Ministries.

  • voice in the Heavens Wednesday, Nov 5 at 9:22 PM FLAG COMMENT Excuse me, but the real bible is in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Something that the archaeologists are still trying to put together. The bible was written by men. Only the real words of God are written in RED. And another thing, when people use to murder innocent people, accusing them of being witches, they all did it in the name of GOD! Now tell me what does that have in common with what you people believe? That is the real abominat ... MORE >
  • BEBE Wednesday, Nov 5 at 11:13 AM FLAG COMMENT Why is it called 'hate' if we oppose what is unGodly? God, Himself, calls it an abomination. 1Tim.1:8-11; 1Cor.6:9. God hates all sin. God also says in His Word, "I will judge the nations." I personally try to follow and obey ALL of Gods' commandments, not just for myself, but also for my nation. I do not want to be standing here, when God judges my nation. Mankind can make all the political parties, decisions, and programs ... MORE >
  • Voice in the heavens Wednesday, Nov 5 at 9:51 AM FLAG COMMENT Don't worry my brothers and sisters. Obama winning was the bigger and better thing. This thing is oblivious. We'll soon be equal, with his leadership. Now, regain your faith in God. LIke Jason and DeMarco says, "We're All Angels". God Bless us All.
  • Anonymous Tuesday, Nov 4 at 3:30 PM FLAG COMMENT @ sandiegoanglicans.com - "When the no on 8 folks come up with a suitable replacement for the traditional definition of marriage, I'll be interested. Until then, it's a domestic partnership."..........-Pretty typical statement we keept hearing from prop 8 supporters who, in their arrogance, seem to think they are fighting to defend the status quo. "Until then, It's a domestic partnership". Actually chief, it's not. It's marria ... MORE >
  • Virgil Tuesday, Nov 4 at 2:20 PM FLAG COMMENT Proponents of Prop 8 should read the fedaralist papers, the best written and most enduring documents on how a government constituted as ours is needs to work, and what the writers intended. A section below from fedaralist 78 on the judiciary is particularly relevant, and given that the people of California have taken legislative authority themselves through the ballot initiative, this attack on the power of the judiciary by t ...
