A vehicle hit a 15-year-old student while he was waiting for a bus to go to school in National City, according to police.
The Jeep Cherokee collided into the bus bench in the 1500 block of Plaza Blvd at about 6.49 a.m. Thursday.
“When the officers arrived at the scene, they found a 15-year-old boy had been struck by the vehicle,” National City Police Dept. Lt. Jose Tellez said. “The driver of the vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, was still in the vehicle and appeared to be passed out at the wheel.”
The teen was taken to an area hospital. His condition is not yet known.
The driver was taken into custody.
“We’re evaluating whether it’s medical, drug induced or alcohol impairment,” Lt. Tellez said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
