San Diego Veteran of 2 Wars Turns 100

When Theo Logan returned home to the U.S., his dedication to helping people wasnโ€™t over.

A U.S. military veteran who served in two wars turns 100 this week in San Diego.

Theo Logan enlisted in 1942 and retired 20 years later as a major in the U.S. Army.

He was stationed in Germany, Italy and Korea.

He said he saw a lot and was grateful to be one of the boys to make it back home alive.

But heโ€™s quick to point out, heโ€™s no hero. He was just a man doing his job.

โ€œMy part was so small, that I can't see the big picture in that manner, but I think we all did our part as best as we could under the circumstances,โ€ Logan said.

Among those circumstances was a segregated army.

โ€œOnce we were integrated, I think it makes the service, much, much stronger, than let me say, the individual was,โ€ he said.

When Logan returned home to the U.S., his dedication to helping people wasnโ€™t over.

He became involved in the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and helped to develop the Southeastern Economics Development Corporation.

He also started a successful real estate business with the focus on helping African-American and Hispanic residents in Southeast San Diego become homeowners.

Seeing people buy their first home is something he will always remember.

โ€œIt makes you feel like you are doing something worthwhile, when you do that,โ€ Logan said.

Loganโ€™s children said he still reads two newspapers every day.

They will celebrate his 100th birthday on Sunday with family members and more than 100 guests.
