New Parking Garage Opens in Little Italy

A new garage answers the question "Where can I park in downtown San Diego?"

A 10-story parking garage is now open in downtown San Diego – built for county employees to use weekdays but available to the public on evenings and weekend.

The garage is located on the corner of Cedar Street and Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy.

“It’s been a long time in the making,” County Supervisor Ron Roberts said Friday at the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the ground opening.

The building stands 7-stories tall with three floors of parking available underground. There are 640 spaces in all as well as several electric vehicle parking spaces with the ability to add more if needed.

The structure will be used by county employees until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday but will be open to the public for evenings and weekends.

“The street parking is over 100 percent used and you can hardly find a space,” Roberts said. “The visitors who are coming to Little Italy this is going to give them something very useful.”

Roberts said the building is really the final piece of the County's Waterfront Park project downtown.

In that project, the county took two outdoor parking lots and turned them into the Waterfront Park in May 2014.
