North Park Community Plan Approved, Moves to Next Step

The idea is to extensively develop North Park in the next 20-30 years in terms of housing density, walkability and arts and culture.

A plan to dramatically redevelop North Park was approved late Tuesday, but with a list of conditions.

The North Park Community Plan has been in the works for about nine years.

The idea is to extensively develop North Park in the next 20-30 years in terms of housing density, walkability and arts and culture.

More than 100 people gathered at the Lafayette Hotel Tuesday night.

Some voiced concerns regarding parking and gentrification.

The plan passed but with conditions to protect historic resources, analyze their climate action plan and make sure to not lose affordable housing options while still building more housing for younger, incoming generations.

The next steps include responding to the comments brought up at the meeting and presenting the plan to the city's planning commission on September 22.

North Park is one of the city’s older communities located between Mission Valley and Golden Hill.

The community’s population in 2015 was approximately 45,000 but is estimated to grow to 70,000 according to the draft of the community plan.
