A Minnesota man, in federal custody in San Diego, will be extradited to face charges in a terrorism investigation, a judge ruled Thursday.
Abdurahman Yasin Daud, 21, is accused of conspiracy to provide material support and attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization
Daud and 21-year-old Mohamed Abdihamid Farah attempted to cross into Mexico through San Diego to fly to Syria using fake travel documents, prosecutors claim.
Daud’s mother and five other family members and friends attended Thursday’s hearing in downtown San Diego.
The group drove from Minnesota to San Diego a few days ago once they knew Daud was in custody here.
Daud’s attorney said his client’s mother was hoping to see her son and make sure he was OK.
The two men are among six charged with terrorism in the investigation. They are the latest people from Minnesota to be charged in an investigation stretching back months into the recruitment of Westerners by ISIS.
Farah was also ordered to return to Minnesota to face charges. NBC 7 has learned Farah was still in custody in San Diego as of Thursday.
