The driver and passenger inside a medical transportation van were injured in a traffic accident on Sweetwater Road Wednesday.

A blue sedan driving southbound on Sweetwater Road ran a red light and struck the van in the intersection at Jamacha Boulevard just before 6:30 a.m. according to San Diego County sheriff’s deputies.

The medical van flipped onto its side.

There were only two people in the medical van – a driver and passenger. Both were taken to a nearby hospital. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening according to deputies.

The driver of the blue sedan was also transported to a nearby hospital. Deputies believe the driver had been drinking.

The intersection was expected to be closed for approximately a half hour while emergency crews investigated the accident and cleaned up the debris.
