I-15 Express Lanes Re-open

The commute was a bit easier for drivers along Interstate-15 on Monday morning.

The I-15 express lanes re-opened at 5 a.m. after being shutdown just a little over a week.

Caltrans has opened four new HOV lanes on the 15 between the 163 and the 56. The HOV lanes will have two lanes devoted to travel in both directions 24 hours a day.

Caltrans says they have plans to add the same type of commuter lanes on Interstates 5 and 805.

"These lanes save our commuters about half the travel time," said SANDAG's Jack Dale.

The eight-mile stretch between the 56 and 163 was shut down for nine days so the work could be completed.

Caltrans has the options to open all four in one direction with zipper lanes for special circumstances like a big accident or big event.
