3 Charged With Murder in Burlington Coat Factory Parking Lot Homicide

Authorities have arrested three suspects wanted in connection with a homicide at the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot in La Mesa after an officer-involved shooting.

Kathryn Williams, 24, of San Diego, Teishia Miller-Johnson, 32, of San Diego and Derrick Henderson, 30, were arrested Tuesday evening after a short pursuit. All three will be charged with murder.

The homicide unfolded on July 20 at approximately 6:47 p.m. when La Mesa Police Department (LMPD) officers responded to a call reporting a verbal altercation in the parking lot of the Burlington Coat Factory, at 7938 El Cajon Boulevard.

The caller reported seeing an altercation and then hearing a gunshot, police said. A man -- later identified as Travis Lewis, 30 -- collapsed in the parking lot, police said.

Police later determined Lewis had been shot during a robbery.

Witnesses told police they saw two people run from the scene - a man and a woman.

Homicide detectives launched an investigation.

On Tuesday evening, LMPD officers and San Diego police officers worked together to arrest Williams and Miller-Johnson in connection with the homicide. The pair will be charged with murder.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., detectives found Henderson, 30, the suspected shooter in the homicide.

During the first confrontation, a La Mesa police detective fired a shot at Henderson. Henderson fled the scene, but detectives took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

"I was just chilling right here and I heard some gunshots and I saw a bunch of cops run up and came super fast," said neighbor Frank Gonzalez Alonso.

The suspect was taken into custody on 50th Street. No one was injured in the shooting, according to SDPD.

"They closed the whole street," Alonso said. "They told me to come inside, get inside my house."

San Diego police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
