21-Year-Old Suspects Wanted for Fatal Stabbing

    San Diego police are looking for Julio Mendez, 21, in connection with a fatal stabbing at an apartment complex in Lincoln Park on July 29.

    A 20-year-old man is dead and San Diego police are looking for two suspects after an alleged altercation turned into a stabbing at an apartment complex in Lincoln Park, late Saturday night.

    After receiving a call about a fight, officers arrived at an apartment complex located at 47th and Castana Street just before 11:30 p.m. said Lieutenant Ernie Herbert with SDPD.

    Once there, they found the victim suffering from an apparent stab wound at which point paramedics transported him to the hospital where he later died, said Herbert.

    Saturday, officials identified one of the suspects as Julio Mendez, 21, who fled the scene on foot after the stabbing, according to police.

    According to police, the victim came to the scene with two female friends in order to drop off the child of one of the females to its father who lives at the complex. At some point an altercation began between the victim’s father and one of the female friends.

    As the victim waited in his car in the parking lot, the fight continued outside towards him and he was later stabbed in the vehicle, police said.

    A 21-year-old man and female, who fled the scene before officers arrived, were named as suspects in the stabbing.

    The victim’s identity and the cause of the fight were not immediately known.
