OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- A local company that offers to help brides expedite paperwork needed to change their names has a strange way of doing business, according to a local bride.Kristy Roblee said she paid the Oceanside company a $15 fee to change the name on her Social Security card, only to get a note a few months later saying she should not have lent personal information. Roblee never received the new card, but did receive a $15 refund."I didn't care about the money, I just thought, 'They've got all my information,'" Roblee said.
The company, National Records Service, is the subject of several complaints, according to the Better Business Bureau. However, there is no evidence it has misused anyone's personal information so far. It has responded to all complaints, the BBB said.Still, privacy experts warn that brides should stay away from companies offering to handle personal information."When you fill out that form, you're giving detailed personal information, in writing, to someone you don't know," said Jordana Beebe, of Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
