“Stars Wars” Race Rolls Into San Diego

Course of the Force hits America's Finest City for Comic-Con

San Diego will be filled with “Star Wars” characters when Comic-Con begins Thursday. But some look-alikes came a few days early.

Course of the Force 2013 arrived in San Diego County on Monday. The race began at the Skywalker Ranch in northern California on July 9.

“Star Wars” creator George Lucas’ production company Lucasfilm and Nerdist sponsor the race. Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The race is structured like a relay race. But instead of a baton, participants hand off a lightsaber. Several celebrities took part, including Alyson Hannigan and Chris Colfer.

After leaving Skywalker Ranch, the lightsaber was flown from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Then, runners ran the lightsaber down the California coast. On Monday, the saber traveled from Oceanside to Pacific Beach. It will go from PB to the downtown convention center on Tuesday.
