Scoop: Kate Says Kids “Sobbing” at Loss of Cameras

Barbara Walters “10 Most Fascinating People” special has become a bit predictable, but leave it to Kate Gosselin to spark some interest in this year's show.

On the show, which airs Wednesday at 10 p.m. on ABC, Gosselin tells Walters that her eight children actually miss having TLC camera crews follow them, to the point the kids were all “sobbing” at the loss of their former pals.

“They cried in the van on the way home from school the other day,” Gosselin told Walters. “They kept asking, ‘Where’s the camera crew? Where’s the camera crew? We miss them.’ And I said, ‘Our show is over.’ ”

The kids’ nostalgia for the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” crew dovetails with sentiment from a source close to the canceled production who said, “with rare exceptions, the kids liked filming. They were used to the cameras, the crew was friendly. And they got to do a lot of fun things because of the show, what’s not to like?”

Threats over ‘Jersey Shore
Plenty of reality shows have stirred up outrage over the years, but none have evoked viewer vitriol quite like MTV's “Jersey Shore.”

MTV staffers reportedly are receiving abusive threats via e-mail, Facebook and phone calls over stereotypes portrayed in the program.

“Jersey Shore” follows the general styling of “The Real World,” observing a group of young adults living together in a house. Only this is a summer beach house in, obviously, New Jersey, and the cast members are unlikable, if not downright reprehensible. They refer to each other as “guidos” and “guidettes,” and in a tease for a recent episode, one male cast member punched a female cast member in the face.

When asked for comment on the threats, MTV would only say that no staff members had received death threats. But viewers' anger isn’t the only problem MTV has to contend with. At least two sponsors have discontinued advertising.

Domino’s Pizza said “the content of this particular program is not right for Domino’s,” and now American Family Insurance has backed out. American Family issued a statement that said, “Since our relationship with MTV was in its final days, we took the simple and prudent step of asking MTV to not air any more ... promos during ‘Jersey Shore’ reruns over the weekend. MTV stated they would comply with the request.”

Kanye’s back
With rare exception, Kanye West has stayed out of the spotlight since he hijacked the mic from Taylor Swift during the MTV Video Music Awards Sept. 13. Some of West’s friends said that the musician was going to take a few weeks “to go on a little ‘vacation,’” so that he could “get his act together.”

Seems that the vacation is over — West was spotted at Jay-Z’s 40th birthday party at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. There’s still no word on when he will perform again. Earlier commitments for New Year’s Eve shows were canceled shortly after the VMAs, and nothing new is on his schedule.
