Jerrod Carmichael, star of NBC's "The Carmichael Show," spoke out during an interview with Chelsea Handler criticizing NBC's decision to shelve an episode of his show that dealt with the aftermath of a mass shooting. The decision followed Wednesday's gun violence in Alexandria, Virginia, that left four injured including House Majority Whip Steven Scalise, who remains in critical condition a day after the shooting.

The episode in question, "Shoot Up-Able," finds Carmichael's character surviving a mass shooting and dealing with the psychological fallout from the incident.

"I thought that tonight's episode would have an opportunity to talk about these tragedies in a meaningful way, " he said. When these things happen and people want to talk about it in an outlet that's not the news you will hear it's too soon. But when is it not too soon? Unfortunately, these things happen constantly and breaks all of our hearts."

A representative from NBC said the network had no comment regarding the episode being pulled and it was unclear if the episode would air at a later date.
