Xx Marks the Spot

The Xx, a London-based trio formed in 2005, consists of Romy Madley Croft (vocals, lead guitar), Oliver Sim (vocals, bass guitar) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC sampler).

Formed in high school, the band bonded over a shared love of dark, emotive '80s artists and recorded their debut in a small garage during the wee hours of the night.  The band combined beautiful, hushed vocals with moody samples to create a melancholic, self-produced indie pop masterpiece. The album -- entitled Xx -- was released last August to critical acclaim and landed on Rolling Stone's and NME's end-of-the-year "best of" lists.

In March 2010, The Xx was the biggest draw at the annual South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas. Performing multiple showcases over the course of four days, the band closed out its run with a stunning midnight performance at the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Austin.

In addition to a recent appearances at Coachella and Sasquatch, the Xx will be playing a series of high -profile North American festivals this summer, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.  Before heading to Manchester, Tenn., for Bonnaroo, the band stops at House of Blues / San Diego for a must-see intimate show.

Casbah presents the Xx on Tuesday, June 8 at the House of Blues.
