The Donkeys headline a home-town show at Soda Bar on Thursday night.

I hope you have nothing important to tend to this Friday, because this Thursday night is packed with musical goodness all over town. Our friends the Donkeys return to Soda Bar -- with a slightly new lineup and a new EP dropping on Friday, you get a sneak peek at the new material. Meanwhile one of my favorite voices of the '90s, Glen Philips of Toad the Wet Sprocket, performs at the Belly Up with his good buddy Sean Watkins  of Nickel Creek. I've been to these shows, and they're a hodgepodge of all of your favorite old songs and new ones that will make your old jaded heart swoon. At the Casbah, you can catch the New Kinetics, and at Sycamore Den, two of my favorite local men with guitars, Jesse LaMonaca and Michael McGraw, share the stage. On top of all that, Hoodie Allen is at the House of Blues, Aaron Neville is at the Balboa Theatre, and Tiger Army are at the Observatory North Park. Whatever you do, don't stay home -- I hear there might be a Friday flu going around so just make sure to let your boss know ... cough, cough.
