SoundDiego LIVE is about live, local music, so who better to program our kickoff 2012 event than our new co-host, Tim Pyles of FM94/9, the Local Pyle and the Casbah's Anti-Monday League?
Speaking of kickoffs, we'll be beginning our hangovers on Jan. 26 at McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon (5th Avenue between F and G streets) with a hosted happy hour courtesy of Mission Brewery and McFadden's -- you'll need to be on the guest list to get in on that action.
We caught up with Pyles and asked him how he picked this month's bands: Stephen Rey & the Slicks, and Kera & the Lesbians.
"Kera & the Lesbians are garage rock & roll with a dash of folk and soul thrown in," Pyles told us. "Top it off with frontwoman Kera and you're in for a show you won't soon forget. Have you ever seen a new young talent and said to yourself, 'They go IT?' Well, Kera is that artist and deserves your attention!"
And what about the headliners, Tim?
"Stephen Rey & the Slicks - the new record Old Fashioned Future is exactly that; it harks back to the early days of rock & roll without sounding stuck in that time!" Pyles said. "Stephen has been a staple of the local music scene for awhile now, and his Slicks are top-notch. Whiskey will be consumed heavily at McFadden's on this night, so plan ahead. bar staff!"
As has rapidly become our tradition, the opening slot will be filled by this month's winner of our digital battle-of-the-bands Garage to Glory competition. More details on that later, but we can tell you that Pyles picked the artists competing for that slot, too.
So dress up, come on down, and forget about Friday, if only for a little while, at SoundDiego LIVE on Jan. 26 at McFadden's. Get on the guest list NOW!
