B-Side Players Bring A-Game to HoB

B-Side Players are at the House of Blues on Friday -- it's just one of Robin Roth of 91x's top weekend picks.

The weekend is here, and on Friday night, there's much to choose from.

You can check out the English Beat with Oceanside Sound System at the Belly Up. Plus, B-Side Players, Natty Vibes, Stranger and Hi Roots bring the good vibes to House of Blues. The Obits, Rob Crow's Gloomy Place and White Murder take over the Casbah. At Soda Bar, it’s local favorites Shake Before Us, Flaggs and Shiva Trash. More local goodness from Dr. Seahorse, Ed Ghost Tucker and Neon Cough at the Griffin. Or get your dance on with a Holy Ghost DJ set at Quality Social, Kittens at Bang Bang or Bonkers! at Bar Pink

Saturday night at House of Blues, electronic music duo EOTO teams with dubstep producer Downlink to bring a mad-scientist approach to live music. Each show is fully improvised, feeding off the crowd to see which path the music will take as the duo moves between dubstep, breakbeat, house, drum and bass and trip-hop. Formed by Michael Travis and Jason Hann as a side-project to their jam band, the String Cheese Incident, ETO has garnered fans from across the musical spectrum. Other dancing options in San Diego include Bootie Bassment at the Whistle Stop, Dropset at Bang Bang, Boogie’s one-year anniversary at the Kava Lounge, and at Spin Nightclub, Elev8 & Bassmechanic present Hobotech x Pom. For your live-music fix, Hills Like Elephants and Sad Robot play at Bar Pink, the English Beat do Night No. 2 at the Belly Up with an opening set from Rian Basilio & the Roosters. At the Casbah, it’s the Limousines and Mona and Cayucas headlines at the Loft. Plus, the Locust plays their first local show in years, with support from Widows and Bastard Noise at Porter’s Pub.

On Sunday, live shows to check out include Night Beats, Wild Wild Wets and Amerikan Bear at the Casbah, and jazz-swing-gospel-theater collective Vaud & the Villains at the Belly Up.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
