Free Admission to the Casbah for Life

One lucky raffle winner will walk away with lifetime admission to the Casbah on Monday.

The jackpot prize will be awarded Monday night at a benefit for Bob Bennett, a longtime business partner with the Casbah. Most people know Bennett as the cantankerous weekend bartender who pours a stiff drink and moves along if you don't order fast enough. Don't even think about pulling out a credit card at the cash-only back bar.

For regulars at the Casbah, however, Bennett is family -- a fixture -- as his cackle carries through the bar. He's sarcastic and has a sharp tongue, and that's what makes him so lovable. After a recent fall down his stairs, he underwent knee surgery. In the process of physical rehab, he made the decision to enter alcohol rehab to get his health back. His insurance only partially covers his medical expenses, so naturally the Casbah family is stepping up in his honor. The lineup is chockful of San Diego's big guns, and there's going to be a huge raffle with prizes donated by Dekline, Ocean Minded, Starlite, Riviera, the Station Tavern, the Undercarriage, Bite, Lucha Libre, M-Theory, and more, and, as we mentioned, one lucky winner will walk away with lifetime admission to the Casbah. To accommodate all the bands, doors will open at 7 p.m., with bands starting at 8.
