When I first got the news, I couldn't believe it: Devo at the Belly Up?!?
How are the godfathers of New Wave -- who've performed to tens of thousands at Coachella, Street Scene and the Del Mar Race Track -- gonna cram into our North County seaside live music gem? On second thought, I don’t care -- I must get tickets.
Spreading the truth about DEVOlution around the world, Devo will be performing at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach on Nov. 10. Tickets go on sale this Friday (at noon), for the sizable price of $89 ($125 for VIP),
Devo are touring behind the summer release Something for Everybody?, their first new album in 20 years. Rolling Stone wrote the following about the critically acclaimed Something: "Combining the punk funk fury of Devo's earliest recordings with synth-pop, this ninth disc is frantic and wall-to-wall catchy."
While at the Belly Up, the New Wave prophets will have a new line of clothing available for their cult following. It's available now on Devo's website (clubdevo.com) and, just in time for Halloween, fans can purchase the DEVO Live Tour Gear Bundle -- complete with Red Energy Dome, Yellow Suit and retro specs.
Next month, in Asheville, N.C., Devo will be presented with the first Moog Innovation Award, at MoogFest 2010. During the celebration, the band will be receive a special synthesizer to commemorate their genre-defining work and the innovative spirit of founder, Bob Moog.
