Can We See Some ID, Please?

Don’t you just love three-day holiday weekends? Plenty of fun to be had, including a huge electronic festival making its way to San Diego.

But first, one of my picks for Thursday is Physical Education at El Dorado. This monthly disco, electro, boogaloo party on the first day of September will feature San Francisco’s Viceroy, along with San Diego’s French Kiss Collective (Wyatt from FKC will be celebrating his birthday) and Blancnoire. Get in free before 10:30 p.m. by RSVP'ing here. At Voyeur, you can check out house/tech producer Riva Starr, along with an opening set by TJR. Get more info via this link.

On Friday, head to Cricket Wireless Amphitheater for IDentity, a huge electronic dance music festival. You’ll hear DJs spinning dubstep, techno, house, drum‘n’bass and everything in between. It’s a GA setting, so you can check out all the action without being stuck in one spot. There are three different stages, featuring everyone from Kascade to Afrojack to Steve Aoki to Nero. The doors open at 1 p.m., and it goes till 11:30 p.m.. This is an all-ages event. Check out more about IDentity and save some energy for the official 21-plus after-party at Voyeur, where the venue will be open all night long.

Saturday, join me for Club Ascension at the Kava Lounge with the best in dark underground dance music. We’ll be celebrating host Tom King’s birthday, and he’ll be spinning, along with yours truly. Plus, special guest DJs Baron (Ruin Hollywood, Disko.Nekro), Liquid Grey (Sabbat, Cydonia) and Atom (Sabbat, Room 13). It’s your chance to win tickets to see The Damned on Nov. 1 at HOB, and Bloodbath Body Products will be showcasing their wares. Get details here.

Sunday has everything from Intervention to an Ice Cream Quality Social. These are just a few of my favorite things. For more weekend ideas, visit my blog. Here’s to not getting sunburned and having a designated driver. I’ll see you on the dance floor!

Robin Roth is a familiar voice in the San Diego scene.  She is on the air weekdays from 10am to 2pm on 91X, plus she promotes and spins all over town.  For more info about upcoming gigs, check out her event blog. Follow Robin on Twitter @robin_roth or submit your DJ listings here.
