Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is courting Hulu chief Jason Kilar for a top job with the social network.
Eager to break into the media business, Zuckerberg has been eying Kilar for a while, hoping his network and industry ties would help Facebook with its fledgling offerings, according to the New York Post. From the report:
Facebook clearly harbors content ambitions and could become a destination where people consume as well as talk about movies, music and TV shows. . . . The social network is also eager to prove its worth to Madison Avenue and is looking to attract online video advertising. Few know better than Kilar what’s involved.
Kilar, also an Amazon veteran, was allegedly in consideration to run Yahoo, but said he was "graciously declining to be considered." But now that his contract with Hulu is expiring, Kilar might be looking to make a move to Silicon Valley apparently at a more successful company.
Neither Kilar nor Facebook would comment on the speculation.
Kilar's experience dealing with network television (Hulu is, after all, a partnership with ABC, NBC and Fox) would prove valuable to Facebook which aims to keep its users glued its blue and white pages by introducing more media offerings. There's also little doubt that it would be a lucrative deal for Kilar.
