Turn on the Heat

More record cold for the county on Monday

It was another day of record cold for San Diego County on Monday. Like Sunday, we saw a handful of spots register the coldest "high temperatures" ever for an Oct. 5.

El Cajon topped out at 68 on Monday, Escondido and La Mesa 67and Vista heated up to only a 69.  We also saw some records set in the other direction. Overnight between Monday and Tuesday, three "low temperature" marks were hit: Palomar Mountain bottomed out at 31chilly degrees, The Wild Animal Park dropped to 45, and Borrego Springs fell to a very cool 48.

The broad trough of low pressure that is responsible for this unseasonably cold weather is slowly breaking down and moving east. Overnight last night, temperatures eased a bit and on Tuesday afternoon we should warm up a little more, with coast highs getting close to 70 degrees, and in East County, we'll see all areas hit at least the mid 70s, with a couple possibly moving into the low 80s.

Looking ahead, we're expecting a warm, sunny weekend with great beach weather on tap.
