A local brewer had visions of malt balls dancing in his head.
Every year Karl Strauss gives a different brewer a chance to drum up the Holiday Beer. This year, brewer Ian Young was struck by an unusual inspiration. What would it taste like to add malt balls to the brew?
So the equivalent of 5,000 malt ball centers were tossed directly into the boil. The result is Karl Strauss Imperial Malt Ball Stout. The company’s release describes it as “a rich, full-bodied stout with loads of chocolate flavor and a subtle sweetness imparted from the malt balls.”
