Three historical buildings -- formerly barracks, a gymnasium and a storage facility --have been renovated to become the 77,000-square-feet in which to tell Walt Disney's story – the tale of his life, his career and his American coming of age. The Walt Disney Family Museum, in the hands of founding executive director Richard Benefield, aims to enlighten its visitors about Disney's innovations and their impact on American and world culture.
The Walt Disney Family Museum is co-founded by Disney’s own daughter and grandson, Diane Disney Miller and Walter E. D. Miller. Mrs. Miller and her husband, Ronald W. Miller, own the Silverado Vineyards Winery in Napa Valley. The two have seven children and 13 grandchildren. This October museum goers can enjoy Fantasia screenings three times each day in the theater and enjoy HallowScreen! spooky cartoons for families on the Oct. 30 and 31.
Other highlights of opening month include a concert by the San Francisco Symphony with classical works heard in Fantasia and orchestrations of themes and songs from Pinocchio and Mary Poppins.
