NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, whose relationship is the focus of a new Broadway play โMagic, Bird,โ appeared Wednesday on "Late Night with David Lettermanโ to talk about their lifelong friendship and intense basketball rivalry.
Bird said the documentary does a great job capturing the relationship between the former Laker and the former Celtics stars, but โit was really all about the competition.โ
โEven today, if we could do something to compete against each other, Iโd still like to do that,โ Bird said to laughs and applause.
Johnson said he feels the same way.
โI wish we could compete against each other right now,โ Johnson said.
Letterman joked, โyou could go out and buy a baseball team right now.โ
Bird joked that he considered buying the St. Louis Cardinals, but because the Dodgersโ deal was record breaking over $2 billion, Bird figured the team was worth at least $500 billion.
