Facebook Defriending Leads to Double Murder: Cops

“It's a senseless thing,” Sheriff says.

A Tennessee man allegedly shot and killed a young couple after they deleted his daughter as a friend on Facebook.

Marvin Potter, 60, has been charged with the first-degree murders of Billy Payne Jr., 36, and his girlfriend Billie Jean Hayworth, 23, authorities said Thursday.

The couple’s eight-month-old baby was found unharmed in Hayworth’s arms at their Mountain City home.

Both victims had been shot in the head and Payne had his throat cut, according to the Elizabethton Star.

The couple had complained to police that Potter’s daughter, Jenelle Potter, 30, was harassing them after the defriending, according to Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece.

“It's a senseless thing,” he said.

Marvin Potter’s friend, Jamie Curd, 38, who allegedly had romantic feelings for Jenelle Potter, has also been charged in the slaying. Potter and Curd were arraigned Wednesday.

Authorities have handled other cases where Potter’s daughter believed she had been snubbed by someone, according to the Washington Post.
