‘Just Happy to Be Putting That Helmet On'

San Diego Chargers future Hall-of-Famer talked about remaining a Bolt at a morning news conference.

After a couple of months of rumors and negotiations, LaDainian Tomlinson is officially staying in San Diego. He agreed to a new three-year contract with the team on Tuesday.

At 11:30, Tomlinson came out at the Chargers training center in Murphy Canyon to talk to the media about staying in San Diego.

"I love the guys on this team and I never really thought I was gonna leave," Tomlinson said.

The wait was hard, Tomlinson said.

"It was tough, more so for my family," he said, adding later, "just happy to be putting that helmet on."

Chargers President Dean Spanos spoke about the deal after the announcement

"It was important to me to get this done to L.T. could continue his career here in San Diego where he means so much to our team, our fans and our community," Spanos said. "The alternative was just unthinkable.  He belongs in San Diego."

Tomlinson won the NFL MVP in 2006, the same year he won the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his work in the community. As some say, he's a great football player but a better man.
