Nick Watney Comes From Behind To Win Buick Invitational

Nick Watney was the proverbial 3rd wheel.  Sure, he was playing in the final group of the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, but he was five shots behind leader John Rollins and two shots back of the guy most people thought would have the best shot at winning, Camilo Villegas.  However, on the South Course at Torrey Pines, no lead is safe.

Rollins fell apart on the back 9, Villegas couldn't get his putter to work, and Watney birdied two of the final three holes to get his 2nd career PGA Tour win.  Watney sank a monster 40-foot birdie putt on 16 to tie Rollins for the lead, then completed the comeback with a 2-putt birdie on 18 to finish the tournament at 11-under par, one shot better than Rollins.

It bears noting that Rollins' 11-under is the same score Ryuji Imada had last year when he finished in 2nd place, eight shots behind runaway winner Tiger Woods.  Tiger was not in La Jolla to defend his title.  He's still recovering from major knee surgery.
