Lately, when the Padres have gotten good pitching, they haven't gotten good hitting. That ended Tuesday night.
Josh Geer and Heath Bell provided that good pitching Tuesday night. The Padres, despite one run over 9 innings, managed to win their third game in the last 15 games.
Slumping Brian Giles doubled in that winning run in the 10th inning and the San Diego Padres snapped their six-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.
Giles' one-out double off Matt Daley scored pinch-hitter Edgar Gonzalez from first base to give the Padres their third win in the last 15 games. Gonzalez reached on a one-out walk and Giles hit a ball off the right center-field wall that allowed Gonzalez to score the winning run without a throw.
Giles, who came into the game hitting .153 and was on a 3-for-27 skid, batted in the leadoff spot and went 2 for 3 with two walks. Heath Bell (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four strikeouts for the win.
The Diamond Backs come to San Diego Wednesday.
