Mickelson Out of FBR Open

Mickelson misses the cut

Phil Mickelson will have extra time to prepare for the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, after missing the cut in the FBR Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mickelson followed a horrible opening round 76 by shooting a two over par 73 on Friday.  His 36 hole total of seven over 149 means he'll miss the cut for the second time in three years in this tournament.  The last time Mickelson didn't play on the weekend in the FBR Open was 2007.  He bounced back the next week to win at Pebble Beach. The San Diegan is one of the favorites in the Buick Invitational every  year.  Hes won there three times.

This was Mickelson's season debut, and the first time he has missed the cut in his first tournament of the year since turning pro in 2002.

The Buick Invitational starts this Thursday.
