Gulls Now Facing Playoff Elimination

Overtime loss puts San Diego in a rough spot

The last time the Gulls and Reign played at Valley View Casino Center, San Diego took a lead to the 3rd period but lost in overtime, snapping their streak of 31 straight wins when leading at the 2nd intermission.

The odds of that happening two straight games at home were not high. But there is nothing like playoff hockey because strange stuff always seems to happen.

The Gulls got a power play goal from Shea Theodore in the 2nd period and took a 1-0 lead to the final frame but once again lost in overtime, this time a 4-3 setback to put San Diego on the doorstep of playoff elimination. Ontario scored three times in a wild 3rd period but Chris Mueller got a pair to force OT. In overtime Mike Amadio gave the Reign the win and a 3-1 series advantage.

Game 5 of the series is Saturday night in Ontario. The Gulls have to win three straight games to keep their Calder Cup championship hopes alive.
