The Los Angeles Dodgers captured their second straight National League West title at home Wednesday night with a 9-1 win against their longtime rivals, the San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers (91-68) won the series finale behind their ace, Clayton Kershaw, who is vying for the Cy Young and MVP awards.
Yasiel Puig blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The Dodgers scored four runs that inning, another four in the eight and never looked back.
Kershaw gave up a single run in eight innings, while striking out 11. He improved his record to 21-3, tying a career high.
Before entering the game, the left-hander was the major league leader with a 1.80 ERA and 9-2 in 13 home starts with a 1.75 ERA. He also owned four shutouts against the Giants.
"I like our chances. It would be nice to clinch against these guys," Matt Kemp said after Tuesday night’s win.

More than 53,000 fans were in attendance, according to the MLB.
The Giants (85-73) were in second place in the division.
