Masked Vandal Slashes Dozens of Tires

Police found some evidence, but not the vandal

Dozens of car owners woke up to find their tires slashed Thursday morning in Carmel Valley as police searched for the vandal.

The masked vandal allegedly used a knife to slash at least 20 cars along several streets off Del Mar Heights Road, according to police.

Police started to receive 911 calls around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

"We had witnesses call in at one point and describe what was going on outside their home. We were able to get into the neighborhood and follow and track the suspect into a canyon,” said Sgt. Pete Cohen. “We were able to get evidence out of the canyon. Unfortunately we did not get the suspect into custody."
