USA Bobsled Recruiting in San Diego

Future Olympians on ice might be training in America's Finest City

San Diego is a hotbed for athletes of all kinds of different sports. Soon we might be able to add bobsled and skeleton to the list.

On Saturday morning the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (previously known as the Olympic Training Center) will host a bobsled and skeleton combine. This is, for many, the first step making the national or Olympic team.

The USA Bobsled & Skeleton Olympic Team is looking for fresh talent leading up to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea and they figure San Diego is an untapped resource, despite our relative lack of icy surfaces.

The combine is comprised of a series of tests including a shot toss, broad jump and multiple sprints. Hurtling down a track made of ice at a ridiculous pace requires speed, power, explosiveness, agility and the guts of a burglar. Many Olympic-caliber sledders come from sports like football, track and field, softball and rowing.

Those are all things we do pretty well down here in America’s Finest City so it makes sense USABS would want to see if they can find any fresh blood to infuse into the Olympic system.

The combine starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10 and is open to any athletes interested in participating but if you would like to give it a shot you MUST pre-register. You can do that by clicking here.
