Suspect Stabbed After Home Invasion

Carlsbad man fends off attackers

Two men allegedly beat their neighbor and held him prisoner in his own home on Saturday night. During the scuffle police say the victim was able to fight back and stab one of his assailants.

Police arrested Robert Aldrete, 21, and another man for allegedly breaking into the victim's home in the 3400 block of Clear Cliff Court, Lt. Jay Eppel said.

The victim told police his neighbors rushed into his home, closed the door to stop him from getting away and then began beating him. After the victim stabbed his assailant, he escaped and went to Tri-City Medical Center, Eppel said.

The victim called police and was transported by ambulance to the same hospital as his attacker, the commander said. When the victim arrived at the hospital, Eppel says he positively identified Aldrete as his assailant.

Aldrete was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, battery, and false imprisonment, Eppel said.

Police were unable to locate Aldrete's alleged accomplice.

Eppel said the victim only suffered minor injuries.
