Mom, Kids Seriously Injured in Crash

A mother and her three children were critically injured in Chula Vista Monday morning after a small special needs bus and a family minivan collided, officials confirmed.

The collision happened at East Palomar Street and La Media Road at around 9:30 a.m.

The mother and all three children inside the van – ages 1, 4 and 11 – sustained major injuries, and were transported to local hospitals, according to John Davidson, Deputy Chief of Operations for Chula Vista Fire. As of 11:40 a.m., a hospital spokesperson told NBC 7 the children were in stable condition.

One passenger aboard the bus suffered a minor injury and was also transported to a hospital. No one else aboard the bus was hurt.

About a dozen first responders rushed to the site of the crash. The minivan could be seen rolled over on its side at the intersection. At least one person inside the van had to be extracted from the vehicle by rescue crews.

Chlua Vista Police said they have responded to five crashes at the same intersection in the last two years.

Officials have not yet determined which vehicle was at fault. An investigation into the accident has been launched.
